Once we arrive at Port Arthur Historic Site we allow plenty of time to explore the history (4 hours). Explore the site, feel the isolation of the convicts, discover the grim and violent history. Enjoy an afternoon of discovery with plenty of time to explore ruins and spooky corners. The afternoon includes a guided walking tour and a short harbour cruise. After leaving the Historic site we return to Hobart via Tassie's prettiest historic village Richmond (1 hour). With a stop here we allow time to see Australia's oldest bridge, hand built by convicts. The day is finished with spectacular views from a local Hobart lookout.

Other things to see and do in Hobart
If you find yourself with some extra free time, why not wonder on down to Salamanca Place where you will find waterfront warehouses dating back to the 19th century. Today, however they house cafes, restaurants, galleries and art studios. The famous Salamanca markets are held every Saturday.

Or learn about the Island and the city's history and contemporary life at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery on Macquarie Street. The already world famous MONA has redefined both art and 'museuming', and is just 15mins from downtown. Drive in, or cruise upriver for a unique experience.
