Australian School Library Association Inc.

Annual General Meeting, 10th August 2007
Presented by the ASLA President, Anette Ainsworth.

Strategic Direction
Policies and plans such as Advocacy, Strategic and External have been reviewed. A handbook to accompany the Constitution is in the process of being developed.

Advocacy
Teaching Australia - involved in discussions with Teaching Australia on issues such as Accreditation of Pre-service Teacher Education. Attended Teaching Australia Forum on National Professional Standards for Advanced Teaching and School Leadership in Melbourne in July 2007 after contributing to feedback of the discussion paper.

Represented at the Peak Bodies Forum, National Site Licensing (ERA) and National Resource Sharing Consultation. ERA has been placed in the public forum for libraries to express an interest.

Member of the National Education Forum. Represented at meetings in Adelaide – November 2006, Canberra – May 2007 and Melbourne – July 2007.

ALSA/ALIA Relations
Development of the revision of the MoU. Continued activity through the Joint Policy Advisory Group. Discussions with ALIA Executive Director about advocacy and library promotion. Involved in suggestions for Library and Information Week.

Publications
Access continues as the major publication of ASLA, including referred articles.

Review of Learning for the Future, 2nd edition, being undertaken with stakeholders.

Research
MoU with Edith Cowan University signed ready for "Mechanisms for collecting statistical data and research information on the sector" survey to be initiated.

Conferences
ASLA XX “Hearts on Fire: sharing the passion” will be hosted by ASLA in Adelaide in October 2007.

ASLA On-line III “Under construction: a World without walls” in the process of being planned for May 2008.

It has been agreed that ASLA XXI will be hosted by WASLA in conjunction with ASLA in Perth in 2009

Awards
Teacher Librarian of the Year Award which is sponsored by Pledger Consulting Pty Ltd (LinksPlus/WebLinks) was presented to Carol Miller of Hamilton Secondary College in South Australia.

Development of the School Library Innovation Award for Media Literacy Enhancement sponsored by EnhanceTV. An award for actively promoting media literacy through the use of film and television in schools. The award was won by Terri Davis of Newman College in Western Australia

A heartfelt thanks to all involved with ASLA Council and in particular the huge support of the Executive during the past two years. Many people have contributed in many ways to ASLA Council to make sure the association proceeds in its endeavours for the school library community. Your work is appreciated and commended.
