The Australian School Library Association Inc. (ASLA) and EnhanceTV have the pleasure of announcing the winner of the School Library Innovation Award for Media Literacy Enhancement - Terri Davis from Newman College, Churchlands, Western Australia.

The two highly commended winners are Heather Richardson from The Don College, Devonport, Tasmania and Pauline Crawford from the Australian Science and Maths School, Bedford Park, South Australia.

This national award recognises and honours a professional and their school library team who have a positive impact on media literacy within a school setting.

The winner, Terri Davis at Newman College, Churchlands, Western Australia, is a worthy recipient of this prestigious award. Newman College is a K-12 co-educational Catholic College situated in Perth's northern suburbs.

Newman College Resource Centre actively promoted media literacy through an informal SDI (Selective Dissemination of Information) process. Terri Davis sources web sites each week for appropriate curriculum-related resources and disseminates this information to interested staff.

She also records documentaries on current global issues and other curriculum-related programs and provides these to staff so the content can be shared. Optional feedback from teaching staff is collected from a short questionnaire accompanying a resource. Terri Davis has worked at Newman College for six years.

This award carries a $ 1,000 cash prize from EnhanceTV for use in the library.

The highly commended winner, Heather Richardson from The Don College, Devonport, Tasmania, is noted for her ability to keep abreast of issues of copyright.

Pauline Crawford, from the Australian Science and Maths School, Bedford Park, South Australia, is also a highly commended winner. She promotes the use of video clips in student oral presentations, recognising that the "poetry" of today is the lyrics of Rage and similar TV programs.

The highly commended recipients also receive a $ 500 cash prize from EnhanceTV for use in the library.

The Australian School Library Association Inc. (ASLA) and EnhanceTV congratulate all winners.
