Tasmanian School Library Leader of the Year 2008 and Librarian Technician of the Year 2008 Awards :  Nominations are open for these worthwhile awards -- deadline for submission to ASLA-Tas is October 31st, 2008. 
 

Nominations for these awards can be made by peers, supervisors, Principals or member colleagues of the school library community in Tasmania.  Recipients of the two awards are announced at the regional annual Christmas dinners and final meetings for the year.  Award criteria are listed on the respective nominations forms under thr Awards link.  Members of the judging panel innclude state executive members.

The Doreen Hopkins Medallist for 2008 - Alison Waters, Director of Information Services and Technology at St Michael's Collegiate School, Hobart

The School Library Research Fellow of the Year 2008 - Jennie Bales, Teacher Librarian, Lilydale District High
 

ASLA Tas Teacher Librarian of the Year nominee 2008 - Ailsa Hill, Teacher Librarian at Rose Bay High School. The winner of this national award will be announced on Monday, October 27 as part of celebrations for the International School Library Day.  There will be a separate event in the first week of September, at regional ASLA dinner meeting to celebrate Ailsa's nomination with professional colleagues. Our warmest congratulations go to Ailsa who has won this significant State nomination for the national award for her dedication to the education and information literacy of Tasmanian students.  We are delighted that Ailsa has been recognized for her outstanding work to support student performance at Rose Bay High School. 




                                                                            

 

Annual State Conference:  A Joint ASLA-Tas and CBCA Tas Branch, Libraries2L - Learning and Literature is on in Hobart at Rydges on Friday 15th - Hutchins School on Saturday 16th August, incorporating the celebrated "Fuel your Mind!" Book Week Announcement and Dinner on Friday evening at Rydges.  Conference Keynote speakers from interstate are:  Dr Susan La Marca, Kevin Hennah, John Heffernan, Carole Wilkinson, Jack Heath and local illustrators, Peter Gouldthorpe and Tony Flowers.  The speaker at the Book Week Celebratory Dinner at Rydges Hotel at 7.00pm is John Heffernan.  A special students' session will be available to hear and meet Jack Heath at Hutchins School [flyer for schools].  Other presenters include:  Dr Ken Price, Isobel Williams and Phyl Williamson from Syba Signs.  Sponsors are Black Dog Books, Syba Signs and Clickview, Hobart Bookshop and Sandy Bay News and Bookshop.  Registration forms are available from the Events link on this site.
