Teacher Coding Courses

Date posted: 13 October 2016

If you’ve been thinking about developing your own coding skills, there are a number of online courses available. Here are a selection of courses (paid and free) to get you started:

  • The Code Academy offers users the chance to learn coding for free with a range of interactive activities. You will need to sign up to the site to create an account. You can choose from a range of activities from the content library, including learning language skills in Python, Ruby and PHP.
  • The Khan Academy offers free courses in Computer Programming and Computer Science for teachers. The content varies from introductions to JavaScript, HTML or SQL languages to more applied use of languages to make interactive webpages.
  • Coursera offers a range of paid Computer Science courses from some of the world’s top universities and organisations. Popular courses include “Python for Everybody” by the University of Michigan and “iOS App Development with Swift” by the University of Toronto.
  • Udacity's catalogue of courses and “Nanodegrees” include an “Intro to Programming” and “Android Development for Beginners”. Udacity’s courses come at a cost, but you can trial the course for a week and read student ratings and comments before making a commitment.

Many thanks to the EQ Coding discussion list for these ideas.
