It serves a population of 311,000 people over an area of 983 square kilometres through eight branches and two mobile libraries. Acknowledged as innovative and forward looking, Yarra Plenty is developing libraries that are focused on people rather than books. The recent introduction of an RFID system has freed their staff to provide more outreach programs, more information services and more reading programs. Yarra Plenty was an early adopter of Web 2.0 services in libraries.
