Paper Submission Guidelines for Presenters

[Please note: This section is relevant to presenters whose abstracts have been received and accepted by the Conference Program Committee.]

Format

Please refer to the ASLA 2009 conference paper template [PDF file]

Cover page

The cover page should include the title of the paper, the author/s full name/s, institution affiliation and a brief biography (50 to 80 words). Please include a quality photograph of yourself.

Title page

The title page should include the title of the paper, the author/s full name/s, disclaimers (if any), and an abstract of approximately 300 words.

Word length

The paper should be between 2,500 to 3,000 words in length for the main text.

Figures, tables and illustrations

Each table or figure should be numbered consecutively. Original drawings, cartoon and photos must be high resolution and include a brief, meaningful caption.

Copyright permissions

If including any copyrighted material, copyright clearance must be sought by the author/s and it must be identified that such clearance has been given in the disclaimer. 

Referencing (Please refer to the ASLA Referencing Guide for examples)

In-text references – Author-date system; page number where direct quotes.
Primary references – only those references cited in text and in alphabetical order.
Secondary references – listed after ‘References’ as ‘Bibliography’

References should follow the author-date format (Harvard system). Details required, in order, are:

  • Name/s of author/s, editor/s, compiler/s (Surname, Initials) or institution responsible.
  • Year of publication,
  • Title of publication and subtitle, if any (all titles must be italicized),
  • Series title and individual volume, if any,
  • Edition, if other than first,
  • Publisher,
  • Place of publication,
  • Page number/s, if applicable.

Check all statements, names and references for accuracy.

Proofreading

Paper should be proofread carefully before sending the final copy. The editor reserves the right to make minor editorial and formatting changes to ensure a consistent standard.

Submission

For those presenters whose papers have been accepted for refereed status you should submit your paper electronically to the ASLA Conference Secretariat, preferably as an email attachment in Microsoft Word, on or before 1 May 2009 to be eligible for speaker registration.

All remaining papers should be submitted electronically to the ASLA Conference Secretariat, preferably as an email attachment in Microsoft Word, on or before 1 July 2009 to be eligible for speaker registration.
