Courses for Teacher Librarianship Offered across Australia

Charles Sturt University - School of Information Studies 

Master of Applied Science (Teacher Librarianship)

Normal course duration by distance education - three years.  Students can choose to exit the course after completing Stage One with a Graduate Diploma in Education (Teacher Librarianship).  All subjects are coursework.  The minimum requirements for admission are that applicants hold the degree of Bachelor of Teaching or the Diploma of Teaching, or possess other qualifications deemed to be equivalent by the Faculty; and have been engaged in appropriate professional experience in education for the equivalent of two full-time years; and have access to the Internet during the period they are enrolled in the course.  No compulsory residential schools.

Charles Sturt University - School of Information Studies

Graduate Certificate of Applied Science (Information Literacy)

Normal course duration by distance education - one year.  All subjects are coursework.  An applicant would normally be expected to hold an undergraduate degree.  Applicants who do not hold an undergraduate degree may be admitted if they can demonstrate that their professional experience and/or other qualifications are the equivalent of a degree.

Charles Sturt University - School of Information Studies Associate Student Program

The program covers summer, spring and autumn sessions with all teacher librarianship subjects available, delivered by distance education.  Computer and Internet access are required.  Subjects can later be applied to a formal course, is desired.

Edith Cowan University - School of Computer and Information Science

Graduate Certificate of Information Services

The Graduate Certificate in Information Services offers a first award at graduate level for those interested in school librarianship.  It is intended for students who want an introduction to industry best practice and to the knowledge and skills underlying professional information services delivery and management in these areas.

The Graduate Certificate in Information Services is recognised as an exit point from the Graduate Diploma Science (Information Services) and the Master of Information Services.

Graduate Diploma of Science (Information Services)

The Graduate Diploma of Science (Information Services) aims to produce graduates capable of filling senior roles in the information services, information brokerage, information management and knowledge management industries. 

The Graduate Diploma of Science (Information Services) is recognised as an exit point from the Masters of Information Services. 

Edith Cowan University

Master of Information Services

The Master of Information Services aims to produce graduates capable of filling senior roles in the information services, information brokerage, information management and knowledge management industries. 

Students may exit the Master of Information Services after twelve months of full-time study with a Graduate Diploma of Science (Information Services).

Queensland University of Technology 

The Master of Learning Innovation (Teacher-Librarianship)

Course duration: Full-time -- one year, Part-time -- two years. Entry requirements: An appropriate four-year bachelor degree or equivalent at a standard acceptable to the Executive Dean or an appropriate three-year bachelor degree or equivalent at a standard acceptable to the Executive Dean plus at least one year's appropriate professional or industrial experience. Students undertaking the MLI (Teacher-Librarianship) study must be qualified teachers.

University of South Australia

Graduate Diploma of Library and Information Management

The Graduate Diploma of Library and Information Management is commencing in 2008 (replacing the current Graduate Diploma of Information Studies (MGIN) at the Magill campus.

Entry requirements: A recognised Bachelor degree plus 2 years of employment experience (not necessarily in a library). All courses will be available totally online or face-to-face, either part-time or full-time depending on your circumstances. The choice is yours. The program is HECS based and application is via the UniSA Apply Online. There are industry based lecturers who bring real-world experiences to your studies and the Program Director will discuss questions related to credit on a one-to-one basis. There is also the advantage of alternative entry points.

University of Tasmania

Graduate Diploma in Information Management 

This on-campus one year full-time or three years part-time course is offered by the Faculty of Commerce.  A three-year degree from an accredited university and basic knowledge of information technology and information modelling is required for entry.
