Australian School Library Association > Professional Development > Online 2006 > President's welcome message
As president of the Australian School Library Association (ASLA) and as a teacher who became passionate about being a teacher librarian, I welcome you to the second ASLA online conference.
The first online conference was developed two years ago and as a result of its success, we are fortunate to again have the chance to participate in this style of conference. ASLA is very aware of the need to provide those involved in the profession with access to quality, relevant professional development and achieves this aim through our biennial face-to-face conferences and, more recently, through a communication technologies-based conference. This avenue allows those who may be isolated or unable to attend distant conferences, as well as those who are more easily able to access professional development, to be exposed to wide-ranging topics and presenters.
The conference theme is Visions of Learning, with the strands of the conference being Powerful purpose, Powerful pedagogy, Powerful practice and Powerful performance. The range of topics within the strands is vast and will provide all educators with ideas as well as provoke thought about areas that are part of our everyday teaching experiences. There are some interesting areas that will take you to another level, especially with regard to communication technology and learning processes.
Thank you to Karen Bonanno for being so involved in the organisation of the conference. She has very resourcefully developed the program and brought together an impressive group of presenters. Peter Nibbs also helped Karen edit the papers presented at this conference. Then there has been the wonderful people who have offered great support for the organising of the conference and the development of the program. Thank you to all who continually give their time and energy to support the profession and ASLA.
Hopefully, the conference will fulfil your needs and provide you with the opportunity to communicate with colleagues.
Best wishes,
Anette Ainsworth
