14 April, 2019 - Pre-Conference Fun

  • 10.00am - 3.00pm: Literary Discovery tour- Lunch and tour at Jackie French's property 
    • Limited to 50 conference attendees- Book 'DISCOVERY PLUS' ticket ASAP!
    • Mini bus ride from National Library (approx 1hr 15 min).
    • NB: this includes  walking and steep/rocky stairs and platforms/uneven surfaces- not suitable for walking sticks/wheelchairs & limited mobility etc.
    • If it has been raining, it will be a longer walk into Jackie's place as the buses won't be able to go as close along the dirt road.
    • Attendees will be transported directly to the Welcome cocktail evening.
  • 4.00pm - 6.00pm: Welcome cocktail evening at a local school library location

15 April, 2019 - Conference Day 1

  • 8.00am: Registration  
  • 8.30am: Conference Welcome
  • Keynote speaker Tracey EzardProfessional triber, teamwork, culture and collaboration expert 
  • Tracey Ezard workshops
  • Break out workshops and presentations strands of Literacy, Technology & Discovery
  • Guided tours of the National Library
  • Discover how you can be a part of ASLA board or a project team for Australia school libraries.
  • Afternoon- Various Discovery tours. Possible choices may include Indigenous, Nature, Technology, Remembrance, Historical, Creative, & Growing.

15 April, 2019 - 50 Years Birthday Celebration Dinner at The National Museum

  • 6.00pm-10.00pm: drink and canapes on arrival, 2 course meal, cash bar and presentations.
  • Socialise and celebrate with colleagues and library staff as well as the authors and presenters.
  • ASLA 50th Birthday Celebration Special Guest- Morris Gleitzman- Australian Children's Laureate
  • Reflections by Jackie French- 'Imitate the actions of a wombat: how to face the school library crises with marsupial tenacity'
  • Teacher Librarian of the Year award presentation

16 April, 2019 - Conference Day 2

  • 8.00am: Registration 
  • 8.30am: Conference day starts
  • Keynote speaker; Dr Margaret MergaImpact of school libraries and reading
  • Author perspectives- Jack Heathrenowned Australian author of both Childrens' and Adult fiction ( a Canberra local!)
  • Keynote Speaker: Tamara SullivanTechnology innovations for improving learning outcomes.
  • Break out workshops and presentation strands of Literacy, Technology & Discovery (including a Tamara Sullivan'Design sprint')
  • Keynote Speaker: Judy O'Connell-Course Director of Teacher Librarianship @ Charles Sturt University - closing address  
  • Conference closes at 4pm 

                         

Attention our ACT members and conference attendees:

We wish to apologies for advertising ACT TQI 10 hrs for our National conference in April 2019. We are in the process of applying for these hrs with ACT TQI. However we have been notified that as our hours are not yet approved, we have inappropriately advertised these hours. We will update once we have resolved this issue. Sorry for any inconvenience caused at this time.
