National statements on

school libraries

school library policies to guide decision makers

In April 2025 The Australian Coalition for School Libraries (ACSL) the school library sector committee of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), released four key policies to guide school leaders and school library staff. These nationally agreed statements provide guidance on the expectations for school library resourcing, activities and staffing across Australia.

ASLA recognises the contribution of ASLA Directors Marc Mumford (TAS), who was instrumental to this project from the outset, and ASLA Director Catherine Woodberry (TAS) in the update of these documents.

We acknowledge with special thanks the ACSL Committee members from school library associations around Australia whose contributions ensured the national relevance of these documents.
